Sam Steffen is a Philadelphia-based singer-songwriter whose songs are the torch-wood for a new generation of folk music that has learned from the best stuff in the tradition and aims in spite of everything to keep the human spirit alive and kicking.  A versatile musician and skilled finger-picker, Sam is at heart a story-teller, and a prolific one.  With six studio albums to boast of, his latest, Words, Words, Words, released in September 2018, has featured regularly on WXPN’s “The Folk Show,” hosted by Ian Zolitor, who recently selected Sam to represent Philadelphia’s “DJ’s Choice” slot on the main stage at the 2018 Northeast Regional Folk Alliance Conference in Stamford, Connecticut.  Sam has been writing songs for almost a decade, now, and has a vast arsenal of original music that ranges from the personal to the political.  His songs have featured in academic lectures, political protests, worship services, bars, restaurants, coffeehouses, concert venues, festivals, street corners, weddings, funerals, and living rooms. He currently lives in Philadelphia with his fiancé and dog.
